Last night, Memphis rapper Yo Gotti brought his “8 for 8” tour to The Metro in Chicago, IL. Hot on the trails of his recent mixtape The Return which boasts the infectious radio hit “Down in the DM,” Gotti released CM8: Any Hood in America on Black Friday. The mixtape has one feature from Detroit’s very own Big Sean with production from Ben Billions, Dannyboy, Greedy Money, DeedotWill, Street Symphony and more.
Although a release date hasn’t been set for his upcoming album The Art of Hustle, Gotti sure knows how to keep his fans happy. To commemorate the 8th installment of the Cocaine Muzik mixtape series Gotti set out to tour 8 cities in 8 days for 8 dollars. Cities included New York, Baltimore, Philadephia, Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Memphis, and Oakland. Chicago marks his fifth stop since the tour kicked off in New York Decmber 1st. Gotti performed fan favorites “F-U,” “I Know,” and “Errbody” along with a few track from his new project.
Gotti has been making music for “Any Hood in America” since his emergence in the early 2000s. His bond with the streets has made him a household name in the south to around the country. Paying homage repeatedly in his lyrics rapping, “got dropped by the industry but the streets hired me” on CM8’s opening track “White Friday.” After two studio albums and 14 mixtapes Gotti shows no signs of slowing down. Gotti has proved over and over that being honest to yourself and keeping it real with everyone else is the way of life.
